Hello, Jacob !
If you want to pursue a career in Film Directing and Producing as mentioned in your tags, you can do a lot now to introduce yourself before going to college for Film or to a private Film School after high school. Start discovering the extra curriculars at your school that connect with film, video, acting and writing. Start writing short films and start your collection of work now. Film is something that is comforting to "just think about" but trying your hand at it using very basic equipment like your smart phone will start you off. You'll discover the experience first hand. If you have an interest in something or even a budding passion for film, action will make it a reality for you. It doesn't warrant analyzation or spending time not being creative. Just go for it.
If you have the passion or idea or a "maybe" interest in film and really can't visualize what it is like, there are numerous websites and books about filmmaking. There are also videos on You Tube you can watch about this career. Once you feel ready, then you can take the active next step. My advice for the next active step would be to do volunteer work at one or two of the studios and/or production companies that are in your city of Orlando. These can be found through an internet search. Now is as good a time as any to explore your interest first hand and in person. It will be motivating, exciting, challenging, reassuring and affirming. Oh, yes, and fun !
The next step after high school would be to attend college as a Film Major or attend a Private Film School. Not only will you learn everything you need to know to be a filmmaker, you will get experience, meet fellow collaborators, have opportunities and network to build contacts which is necessary in this field of work. Your structured film education will naturally pave the path for your career.
As an actress, I more or less just jumped right in. It was my first semester of college as a Theatre Major and I was taking Introduction to Theatre. I wasn't even three weeks into it and I felt ready to audition for my first play. I got a part. So it happened very fast. Before I knew it I was acting in shows off-campus the whole four years of college and did some extra work and an industrial film. All the opportunities I had before I moved to Los Angeles were from people I knew through college.
So I could advise to "jump right in" but that worked for me and may not be right for everyone. Take your time and feel ready, but spend minimal time thinking about it and make it real for yourself. If it ends up that Film is something that you do not care for, that's fine, too. Go on to the next interest, but I believe people must try things and not over ruminate about things.
Best wishes in all you do and I wish you many happy discoveries as you move forward !

I personally have done a multitude of things over the years that have given me a well rounded knowledge of a number of things that all relate and have impact on what i do know. What caused me to transition from one to the other wasnew technology and saturated markets. However meeting people and associations have help me build quite a portfolio so although my market is once again saturated my celebrity and general portfolio still allows me to rise above alot of my competition as well as the fact of having 21 years experience.
