What kinds of things can I expect going into this?

I am going into security as a trade, and I really don't know what I should expect. I know there is a lot of walking and learning how to do certain things, but beyond that I am unsure what to expect.

Hello, Jasper !

When choosing any career, it is not fruitful to anticipate how exactly things will go. There is no script for your daily work as a Security Guard, it is one of those types of careers that the spontaneity will make every day different. No two people's careers are alike in this field, either. You should also reassess your choice if you want a career that you have great unfamiliarity with. No one, not me or anyone else, can tell you what to expect.

In Security, it will depend on the environment, the employer, the type of place you are surveilling and many other factors. You can control these factors by choosing to work in a place that you like. When you go for the course and Certification to be certified in your state, you will know a lot of what is expected of you as the worker. Maybe now is the time to learn more about Security before you jump into it.

There are videos on You Tube that you can learn more about this work from. I left the link for you below. You will get many unique presentations, because as I've mentioned, each person's security job and involvement is different from others. Working security on a college campus is different than working in a major theatre or a residential setting or government building. Figure out where you'd like to work and decide if you'd like that environment.

Some things that you can bring to a security career are superb communication skills, patience, good writing skills, a genuine concern for people's well-being, really great analytical skills with a lot of intuitiveness, willing to do extra things that are not emergencies but help people and benefit the company. You can work anywhere from sitting alone at a quiet desk to a headache inducing loud and boisterous emergency room in a major city hospital. So, until you know exactly where you'd be working, no one can say what to expect. A good question is - what do you expect from being in security ? What is your mission for this career ?

I hope this is something to consider and I wish you well moving forward with your choices !
