Can scholarships be renewed every year, and what are the requirements to keep them?
Im a 17 year old senior in Skyline and I'm looking for scholarships to fund my education in college. I'm a part of my schools P-Tech program which has given me experience with coding in different languages and several other skills with computer science. I have a passion for business entrepreneurship, I'm part of my schools program DECA and Im enrolled in a college business class.

Hi Joanna,
It's great to see your enthusiasm for applying for scholarships while you're still in high school! Scholarships can indeed be renewed each year, but this typically depends on the specific scholarship program. Many scholarships like the Gates Scholarship or local scholarships offered by community foundations must be reapplied for annually, while some awards like the National Merit Scholarship are renewable for all four years, provided you meet certain criteria.
To keep a scholarship, you usually need to maintain a specific GPA, often around a 2.5 to 3.0, and you may also have to complete a certain number of credit hours each year. Some scholarships require you to be involved in extracurricular activities or contribute to your community, so staying active in DECA and any other programs or volunteering opportunities will certainly help you not only on your applications but also in retaining those funds. It's smart to carefully read the terms of each scholarship you apply for and keep track of any requirements they have for renewal. Best of luck with everything—you are on a promising path with your interests in coding and business!
