Can you explain what a procedure or surgery looks like for a CRNA? What is your job in surgery, what are the basic steps, specific plans, and safety protocols?

I am a student at Mayo High school and I do P-TECH at RCTC and its a program for future nurses to help us graduate high school with our LPN degrees. I am considering being a CRNA in my future.

Good morning! Work as a CRNA is exciting and challenging. I have worked in many different clinical settings. As a CRNA you have the ability to work as an independent provider as the sole anesthesia provider (typically rural settings) and you are responsible doe the entire process starting with anesthesia patient chart review, interviewing, anesthesia plan, anesthesia delivery and post anesthesia recovery. In metropolitan settings you will be a team member whose primary role is the intra surgical anesthesia delivery. The CRNA has the same scope of practice as an anesthesiologist. It’s a great career!
