Hey so it is almost 2025 now, but nevertheless, I think Learning to use and really leverage Generative AI is a great add on.
Most of the free to use Generative AI platforms (for text, video or image generation) are great to help with getting a broader idea of Current trends, events and research in any area. It can help augment your ability if you learn to use it effectively and provided you are cautious about the generated content and implications of it's use.

Hi Christianah,

I'll echo the other answers here and say that AI is a great skill to learn regardless of what you're planning on doing with your career. However, even if you aren't interested in creating or working on AI, you can still learn to use it and apply those skills towards whatever you get into. As a designer I often hear people worrying that "AI is going to take our jobs." I don't think that's the case, but I do believe that someone who knows how to use AI might. As the cutting edge in technology, it's important to build those skills and incorporate them into any work that we do to stay competitive and resourceful.

Not all generative AI is as boring as talking with Chat GPT. You can use it to create images, videos, and even music. It's really fun an interesting to see what comes up and use LLMs to peer into the collective psyche based on the data source. Find ways to have fun with AI and you'll be on your way to building useful skills that will make you a valued asset to any team.

Cheers!

It might be beneficial for you to specify which particular area of AI aligns with your career goals and ambitions. I would recommend using tools like ChatGPT or similar resources to aid you in this process.

Simona’s Answer

Hi Christianah - thanks for your question.
It also depends on what you would like to do and the skills you have, if you would like more to orient towards IT / Digital / Technical areas then maybe Digital journalism, where you can also combine communication skills. Else and connected to this, Video production or Social Media. If you are more interested in business or sales, then Digital sales with marketing. I would also add Project management, to know various production / supply processes, that is for sure something that could help you in sales or business, should you decide to pursue that career.

These fields require also soft skills and those, combined with digital/AI/machine learning and data analysis, can be a great asset for a successful career. Good luck.

A’s Answer

Hey Christianah, I echo most of team's comments on particularly how to employ AI in Data Science and Machine Learning (ML).

Definitely will be game-changers across various industries. In healthcare, they enable predictive analytics for disease outbreaks, personalized medicine, and early diagnosis through image recognition, significantly improving patient outcomes. In finance, they detect fraudulent transactions, automate trading, and assess credit risks, allowing real-time intervention and loss prevention. Marketing benefits from these technologies by understanding customer behavior, segmenting markets, and personalizing marketing efforts, thereby increasing engagement and conversion rates. Retailers use ML to optimize supply chain management, predict inventory needs, and enhance customer experience through personalized recommendations, driving sales and satisfaction. Autonomous vehicles rely on ML for real-time navigation, obstacle avoidance, and safety, paving the way for safer transportation. Lastly, in the energy sector, data science and ML optimize energy consumption, predict equipment failures, and integrate renewable energy sources, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
