Theophilus’s Answer

Joshua,

To be a great businessman or excel in your career is not just about following steps. It is about having a mindset of growth, resilience, and service. I speak not just from knowledge but from experience, and here’s my advice, passionately delivered:

How to Be a Great Businessman

1. Master the Market
Understand this: your business thrives on how well you understand your audience. Dive into research. What do people want? How can you meet their needs better than anyone else? You don’t sell products; you provide solutions.

2. Build Authentic Relationships
Business isn’t just transactions or making profits. It is connections and relationships. Customers stay loyal because they trust you. Collaborators and partners choose you because they respect you. Treat every interaction as an opportunity to create a lasting impression.

3. Innovate Relentlessly
Be the businessman who thinks beyond today. How can you do it better? What’s the next big thing? Push boundaries. The most successful businesses aren’t just relevant—they lead the way.

4. Resilience is Key
Here’s the truth: business will test you. Failures will come, but they’re not the end—they’re lessons. Fall, rise, and keep going. Your ability to bounce back defines your greatness.

How to Be Great in Your Career

1. Set a Vision, Not Just Goals
Know where you’re headed and why. Goals are stepping stones, but your vision is your north star. Stay aligned, and let that vision fuel your every move.

2. Learn and Adapt
The most successful people are students for life. Read, listen, take courses, and surround yourself with people who challenge you. Growth only happens when you’re open to change.

3. Communicate with Power
Your ability to express ideas can be a game-changer. Write with clarity, speak with conviction, and listen with “curiosity”. These are not just skills—they’re superpowers in any career.

4. Give More Than You Take
Share your experiences, mentor others, and contribute to your community. When you help others grow, your influence expands. This is how true leaders are made.

Joshua,

Be bold. Be relentless. The world isn’t waiting for permission to challenge you, so don’t wait for permission to rise. Whether in business or your career, success is about showing up, staying the course, and making a difference.

Speak with purpose. Work with heart. Succeed with integrity. That’s how you become not just great but unforgettable.

Simona’s Answer

Hi Joshua - thanks for the question. A lot of good advice already on what courses and experiences with network you should follow in the answers above. I think that to be a great business man or business woman you need ethics, respect, good communication and empathy. Above and beyond all professional skills - know what your business is about is fundamental. But if you move away a bit from the field you will be in charge of, if you respect your collaborators and people you work with, if you realise that not everybody are the same (empathy), if you lead by your talk (communication) - people will follow you and will turn to you for help. For me all these qualities go above and beyond what we do.. what we do is important, it requires a lot of efforts to be up to date and manage the complexities. But we need to remember that our actions must follow certain rules and respect is paramount. Respect of what we do and how we do with the other people.

I wish you all the best!

Thank you for your question. I am glad to know that you would like to become an entrepreneur. Have you thought about what industry you would like to start the business?
Below are my suggestions:
1. Think about what you industry you have interest, e.g. what you have interest or you have strength?
2. Do some analysis on the industry, e.g. competition status, entry criteria, any alternative / substitute?
3. Take industry related courses and management courses
4. Work in the industry some time to understand the business model and establish people network
5. Start the business online first if possible
6. Establish long term business plan and break it down into short term milestone. Review the plan regular and make adjustment if necessary
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Tiffanie’s Answer

Hi Joshua,

I think being a good business person means being a good leader and a good listener. I think it's also important that you are committed to never stop learning. The world is changing every day when it comes to how business run and operate and if you are not flexible and adaptive you might miss out on some great opportunities. You need to be open to taking other peoples advice and criticism, and growing from there.

Leaders must be great listeners and they should also want to make people they work with as good, if not better than themselves. To be a good businessman you need to be someone who other people want to work with and for.

If you are passionate about the career you choose I believe you will be great in your career. Passion will drive you. Best of luck!
