How much do Medical Assistants make on average?
Hi, I am senior in high school and about to go off to college. I am currently enrolled in a program to become Certified Medical Assistant. I really want to be able to afford college and take some financial burden off my parents by working as a CMA part-time. Also, I will be getting exposure to the medical field which will help me in my goal of becoming a doctor. I just wanted to know how much I would make on average so I could work out my potential finances.

Becoming a medical assistant is a great idea, especially since you will gain experience in the clinical field; which will help when you apply to medical school. The salary and hourly pay rate are going to be dependent on the state you live in. The national average is 34,000, but I'm assuming that is for full time employees. That's a great question especially if your trying to figure out your finances, while working to become a doctor. A Medical Assistant earns an average wage of $16.00 per hour, with California paying around $22.11, which is also the highest paying state.
