Is law school and becoming a criminal lawyer worth it ?
I'm in 9th grade and have a good Idea of I want to be when I grow up but I want to make sure that law is the right career path for me.

Samantha -
I can answer this from the standpoint of completing my degree in pre-law and then deciding that I did not want to pursue that field. I think as long as you know that you can always change your mind that will help you. You have a lot of education ahead of you and if you decide to pursue a law degree and one year into your undergrad you change your mind that is ok.
I would recommend seeing you can find a lawyer mentor to show you the day to day -

It appears there are lots of different organizations that provide mentorship opportunities.
Best of luck!

Hi Samantha,
As any good lawyer will tell you, it depends. If you care about justice and know you want to be a lawyer, then criminal law is a great career path to pursue. However, please be aware of how Law School Admissions work (High GPA + LSAT Score), and be prepared to take out student loans to afford this career path. If you work in public service for 10 years, then your loans will be forgiven by the federal government, but I still recommend trying to get as much scholarship from your school as possible.
I recommend shadowing lawyers to see if the work we do is something you want to do as well. Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Kevin
