Hey Steven!
Internships can be a great way to learn and get experience in the field you're interested in. Some companies structure internships in such a way that you can: 1) do projects related to your department's function; 2) have rotational days where you spend a day with other departments to learn what they do; 3) participate in cool intern-only events; and 4) get exposure to the world of work.
Internships are strongly encouraged during college as it makes you more competitive, especially when you graduate. Having an internship signals to recruiters and hiring managers that you have dedicated time outside of school to expand your learning experience and that you have obtained some firsthand experience working in a business environment, which is significantly different than having a work-study job or other part-time job.
I did several internships throughout college and I do not regret the experience. I am confident you will have a great time and learn so much!

Hey there, Steven!
Your career path is the key determinant here. Certain fields like finance or law school can gain massive advantages from internships.
Here's a fun way to think about it: imagine your career path as an exciting RPG game filled with side quests. These quests help you transform into a super powerful character by the time you finish the main story (in other words, it has a straight progression that's made even better by additional learning experiences). If this sounds like your career path, then absolutely, go for that internship! If not, don't worry, there might be other ways to grow and develop in your chosen field.

Hi Steven! As someone who started their professional career as an intern I can say they can be very rewarding but it all depends on what you are looking for. If you already have a sense of what industry you would want to work in then an internship can be a great opportunity to get to know the space and understand what the work looks like. I would also suggest an internship when you are looking for a job but maybe not having the best luck since the barrier to entry for internships may be lower than full-time roles.
I would avoid internships if you would be doing one just to "do it". There are many ways to enter the workforce so explore whatever options you may have (e.g., apprenticeships, entry level jobs, etc.) and think about what best fits for your long term goals. Also not all internships are created equal (some even don't pay!) so make sure to read up on the details of any internship before deciding to do one.
Best of luck in your journey and whether you take an internship or not you'll do great out there!
