Asemota’s Answer

It's good you are asking this question and applied psychology is an amazing course.
You can research online schools that offer such courses and their scholarship opportunities or apply for major scholarships such as Erasmus, Chevening etc.

Some of the jobs available,
1. Research assistant,
2. Therapist
3. Disability specialist
4. Counsellor
To name a few .

I hope you find this helpful

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Ronald !

I am happy to see that you are planning for college ! The way people know about scholarships is to first research which scholarships are available for them. They then apply for the scholarship and wait to hear back from the donor as to whether or not they will get the scholarship. It is a matter of applying. What increases the chance of obtaining some financial assistance through scholarships is to apply for very many of them - every one that you qualify for.

The University that you attend will also offer scholarships. You can find out what scholarships are available by visiting the campus of the college you want to attend. People usually apply for scholarships in their last year of secondary school and throughout their college enrollment.

As long as you qualify for a scholarship, it doesn't have to be an Applied Psychology scholarship because there are various types of scholarships. Applied Psychology is growing in Uganda at this time, so you will most likely find a lot of funding support for your university path as well as places to work when you've completed your degree. It is definitely worth taking the time and effort to apply for a lot of scholarships. After finishing University, you would be a Psychologist. No one can tell you what jobs you will have. Once you graduate and become licensed, it will be your move to apply for work as a Psychologist at that time.

If you are not sure about what psychologists do or where they work in Uganda, you can contact Mental Health Uganda. They can tell you of what services they provide and answer any questions about positions but you'd have to check back with them for employment opportunities once you are Licensed as a Psychologist. I left the link to their website for you below.

When you are ready to apply for a scholarship, you can go online and do a search for whatever is available at that time. There are always new or discontinued scholarships so you need to search closer to the time you're about to apply to college. I have however left a link for you of some scholarships that are currently available in Uganda. The link is below. Each scholarship has all the information about qualifications and deadlines to apply so you can become familiar with the information now and revisit the website once you're ready to apply to University. I also have a link below for you to Ugfacts which has a list of scholarships for this school year that you can read to become familiar with scholarships and the process of applying. By doing a search online for scholarships, you can discover more.

So remember, becoming a Psychologist is a process and no one can tell you what you'd be doing before you've even started studying for it. Once you experience the college path, you will know exactly what Psychologists do and what realm you'd like to work in. Read up more about the career and watch some videos on You Tube about the career to get a clearer picture of what it is like to be a Psychologist and the possible places they can work in. Also remember that Mental Health Uganda can be a rich resource for you and may even have referrals for scholarships for psychology students.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
