How to get more involved in the modeling world?
To be more specific, how to build a portfolio/a name for myself. I'm 16 and want to start thinking about a potential career in modeling, just tips are needed especially since it's pretty barebones in my area so more on hands actions aren't available.

You are centrally located at three or four hours driving time from Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Francisco which do have modeling communities for work once you are ready to start modeling professionally. Starting out learning modeling takes more than just "tips". It is a serious career that requires a vast amount of technique and knowledge of the business and lots of training and experience if you want to do it professionally. You will have to go to Modeling School for the best foundation and to know how to be a Model.
Since there are no Modeling Schools or Modeling Agencies in Visalia, this may pose a challenge for you. The only thing I can think of for you right now since you are 16 years old is to form a fashion extracurricular or club at your school, inviting students that are into fashion, photography and things connected to make up, fashion designing, etc. This is something that you can do that will give you practice. If you are still serious about modeling two years from now, you can consider relocating to Sacramento or San Francisco. I cannot advise thinking about Los Angeles at this time. New York City, NY is also a huge hub, but it's a huge step moving to a very expensive city.
I would advise reading some Modeling Agency websites, but do not register until you know exactly how to model in print, Television, Video, Still Photos and Live Projects. You will have to be available 24/7 for go sees and working on projects. Read about the business end of modeling and what is trending for types of models. Please understand that photos in a portfolio are not enough. You must go to modeling school to learn this career. They do not teach you while working as a model. Learn the top fashion designers and their styles. So for now, utilize your school's resources and once you are 18, you can make some decisions, but I do caution about trying to get modeling work before you are formally trained and before you have substantial experience.

Many demands are put on models like working in extreme weather, long photo shoots, and to constantly look good physically as well as many other situations.
