ACT and SAT are such general knowledge tests, it is hard to recommend specific study guides, but it is a good idea to review any textbooks, courses, or notes; anything that will help stir up any knowledge you have not thought about in a while.

What will help is thinking about how you react to tests in general. How much sleep will you need the night before, do you work better after a full meal, a snack, or an empty stomach. How will you react to a stressful testing environment.

Whether online or through library, find a few practice tests and always time your practice. I got pretty good at some practice tests, but in a live/stressful environment started to slow down wanting to make sure everything was right. Was able to notice my "pace" was off within the first 15 minutes and was able to correct for the rest of the test.

Hello, Layla!

There are multiple way you can study for an SAT or ACT!

One big way to study for either test is to do practice sets on Khan Academy. They have an awesome library of different subjects that you can discover. Another great thing that Khan has is its very own SAT/ACT area where it helps you understand what you need to work on and provide you the resources to complete it.

On the other hand, SAT has practice tests that you can complete. It feels like you are taking an actual SAT! It gives you sample problems and the same amount of questions as the real SAT! At the end of the practice test, it will give you a score of how you did. Note: these are not official results that you can use on a application. It's just to see where you are at!

Good luck on the SAT or ACT!

Hi Layla, Firstly, congrats on deciding to take the SAT and ACT. If you're looking for a free or low-cost way to prep for the SAT and ACT, I would recommend you check out the Khan Academy. They have free SAT and ACT prep tools that you can use. You can find them here: https://www.khanacademy.org/digital-sat. I have friends who used Khan Academy and did quite well.

You can also get SAT and ACT Study Guides at the library or ask other students who have taken the test if you can have their materials.

You will want to carve out dedicated time from your normal study schedule to study for the SAT and ACT.

I would also recommend that you work to build stamina around taking a test for an extended period of time -- that's a big part of it too. Taking practice tests on Saturady mornings will help you do that!

All the best to you and good luck!

Marie recommends the following next steps:

Check out free online resources like Khan Academy.
Borrow prep materials from the library or ask friends who may have already taken the test for their materials.
