what are the specific steps to become a mechanical engineer?

I love working on cars. I would love to follow these specific steps in order to become a mechanical engineer and work in the environment with cars. I see myself as a mechanic in my life, but I would love to learn a little bit more about the process to become one.

Hi Tayvian! I’m sorry no one’s answered your question yet. We're working hard to get it answered by Professionals with the best insights, but in the meantime I've included a link to a relevant Q&A here on CareerVillage.org that should be super helpful for you to read through.

Research the field a bit. Check out www.bls.gov/ooh Will give you lots of info about this and many fields.

Step 1 is to make sure you take calculus, physics and chemistry in High School. This will make it easier once you get to college.

Next find a college you want to attend that has Engineering. Sometimes a Junior college may have a pre-engineering program which will allow you to transfer to a larger school to finish your 4 year degree.

Having the hands on experience you have will make you more wanted by companies once you finish your degree.

Checkout the college you may want to go to and chat with a councilor. Also, the requirements are probably on their website.
