Hi, my name is Benedict. For my class project on STEM fields, I was wondering how I could find people to interview in the STEM field about them and their work.

I am an undergrad student. I'm looking for any profession but I would like not well-known professions as I can also personally learn more from.

Yo, Benedict! 🌟 Love that you’re diving into STEM—it’s a whole world of cool stuff out there! Karin’s advice is solid fire 🔥, especially about checking out UNC Greensboro and sliding into LinkedIn DMs (bold move, but it works!). So I ما gonna give you some dips of tricks to find those hidden STEM gems. Hopefully helps! 😉

Hit up science fairs, workshops, or STEM expos nearby. You’ll find some low-key experts who are super passionate and probably down to chat. Just Explore Local STEM Events

Professors = Goldmine – Even if they’re not from your school, reach out to professors from niche programs (think marine biology, renewable energy, or even quantum computing—fancy stuff). Most love talking about their work if you ask nicely. And they are totally willing right here buddy!

💻 STEM Forums & Communities – Check out places like Reddit (r/AskEngineers, r/Science) or specialized STEM communities. People there LOVE to geek out and share insights.

Look for lesser-known STEM fields on YouTube. Find someone doing wild stuff (like forensic entomology—bugs and crime scenes, hello?!), and reach out via their contact links.

Shoot Your Shot – Don’t be shy about sending a quick, polite email or DM. Most people are flattered when you’re curious about their work.

And hey—if someone ghosts you? No sweat. Keep reaching out until you find the STEM superhero you’re looking for. You got this! 🚀 All the best Benedict. 😎

A great place to visit is the Student Doctor Network. It's free and has lots of students and mentors who work in STEM fields. Also, try chatting with your student advisors at school—they might have helpful resources for you.

Hi Benedict,

You have UNC Greensboro in town. Look up the programs and the research they do and contact people at those departments. How about Nanoscience and Earth Sciences?

You can also use LinkedIn to look for people in professions you are interested in and ask if they would be willing to do an informational interview on Zoom. Not everyone is going to respond. That's normal. Don't be discouraged. Just talk to the ones who are available.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
