Leahanne’s Answer

Calissa,

First you need to determine what you like to do. It doesn't matter how much a job pays if you don't like it. You won't be good at it and you won't stick with it if you're not wired to do that work. I can't be an accountant or in the military, regardless of how much it pays, because I would be REALLY REALLY bad at either of those things. I can name about 100 jobs that I would be really bad at that pay well. So, find out what you like to do and what you're good at, then find the industry that you can apply it to that you care about that may pay more than another. First instance, I may be good at sales. Pharmaceutical or medical sales pays more than retail so I may want to look at that, but again, I have to be sure I like and relate to that industry before I sign up.

Leahanne recommends the following next steps:

Determine what you're good at and what you like to do.
Determine what industries you like.
Determine which industries of the ones you like, pay the best for what you like to do.

Katie’s Answer

Hi Calissa - There are lots of well paid job opportunities out there. What do you enjoy doing? What do you enjoy studying? If you like math, an Actuarial career path could be a great option. If you like science, a career in medicine may be worth exploring. Do you have a competitive nature? Perhaps something in sales might suit you. Explore options based on your interests to start.

Simeon’s Answer

If you're wanting to do nearly anything in the medical field, you're probably going to be well compensated for it. I'd recommend volunteering at a hospital or getting another way to see what a hospital floor feels like in real life. It can be a stressful industry for many people, so make sure you actually want to be in it before you go through all the effort of getting there.
