Hey again Kloe, Ooh, 8th grade, huh? High school is a whole new adventure! Here’s the scoop on what to expect and how to keep crushing it on your way to becoming a veterinarian:
1. More Freedom + More Responsibility: High school gives you more freedom to pick your classes and extracurriculars, but that also means more responsibility. You’ll need to stay on top of assignments, study habits, and keeping everything balanced between your cheer, winter guard, orchestra, and theater (because you’re totally going to keep rocking those, right?).
2. Challenge Your Brain: The classes get harder, but it’s a chance to level up. Stick with science-heavy subjects like biology and chemistry—they’re perfect for your vet dreams. But also, make sure you keep a mix of the arts, like orchestra and theater, because well-rounded skills are golden!
3. Get Social and Network: High school is where you meet a ton of new people, including mentors who might help guide you toward your veterinarian dreams. Teachers, older students, or even the school counselor can give great advice on how to start prepping for your vet path.
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask: If you're unsure about something—whether it’s what electives to take or how to prep for college—ask! Your high school years are a time for trying new things, but don’t be shy about seeking advice when you need it.
5. Volunteer with Animals: If you can, try to get hands-on experience with animals outside of school (even in 9th grade!). Animal shelters, pet adoption events, or volunteering at your local vet clinic are perfect places to start building up that vet experience. 🐾
High school is where the fun happens, and you’ve got the potential to make it your launching pad to become an amazing veterinarian! Stay passionate and keep that love for animals alive! You’ve totally got this. 🐱🐶💫 All the best!

Hello, Kloie !
You may be having thoughts about high school and it is such an exciting time wondering how it will be. Here is my simple advice: Expect nothing. Just take each day as it comes. You will remain friends with the people you know from your current school but will definitely make new friends in high school.
It also depends on if you are transitioning from private school to public high school like I did. That is where you have some adjustment to make. My K-8th grades were like one huge, familiar family and all grades knew everyone. It was calm and peaceful. Public High School was a big adjustment for me but I absolutely loved it ! As a matter of fact, I took the entrance exam for private High School, passed it but insisted on attending public school. I had a friend that had gone all through public school so she helped me adjust a lot.
I would advise that you continue with your awesome activities in Theatre, Cheering, and Orchestra because they will have these activities in High School, too.
Expect a lot of self-discovery, challenges and personal growth. Always be yourself and don't try to fit into any "group" of kids or try to be trendy. The best groups for you to strive for in high school would be theatre and orchestra. You will have fun in high school if you resist peer pressure. Burning out in high school is a destructive foundation that can carry over to your adulthood.
Your high school experience will be as good as you make it. You are in charge. You already are involved in some dynamic activities and you may even find new ones in high school. Everyone's experience is different so make careful choices, stay involved and know that you've got this ! Create a great foundation for your future !

This is awesome that you want to be a veterinarian. I always wanted to do something animal related, and in high school I started volunteering at my local veterinary hospital. The vets and techs there let me watch surgeries, go in exam rooms with them, and so much more. Learn as much as you can so you can and find out if this career path is right for you.
Good Luck!!
