Hi Aakash,
Your curiosity about the impact of AI on the profession you are persuing is quite commendable.
BCom offers many disciplines for specialization, the traditional ones being accounting, marketing, banking & Finance and each one of them being affected slightly differently.
Indeed, AI is already having a huge impact on the way we work. This will continue to grow significantly in the coming years & decades.
Businesses across every industry have adopted AI to revolutionize how they approach strategy, operations & customer experience as it empowers them to make data-driven decisions, drive innovation & enhance efficiency.
Today, it's influence is found in supply chains, marketing, healthcare & financial services.
Benefits to business include higher productivity, enhanced customer satisfaction, significant cost savings etc.
Below are a few examples that are in line with the profession you are persuing.
1. AI enables businesses to improve operational efficiency by automating routine tasks, optimizing resource allocation & costs.
Blue Yonder uses AI to predict demand, optimize inventory & improve supply chain efficiency.
2. AI applications enhance productivity by automating time-consuming tasks & supporting employees in taking more informed decisions. Applications include Google's Smart Compose for email mail management; Otter.ai as virtual meeting assistants that transcribe meetings, summarize key points & assign tasks.
3. AI driven customer relationship management tools such as some Chatbots & virtual assistants provide continuous support, reduce burden on human agents & enhance user experience.
4. AI applications are essential in providing cyber security. Darktrace monitors network security by analyzing network traffic & detecting cyber threats before the threat escalates: Mastercard leverages AI to detect fraud by monitoring transactions for anomalies thus protecting businesses & customers from fraudulent transactions.
Despite continuing advances in computer processing & memory capacity, there are yet no programs that can match full human flexibility in many areas such as tasks that require day to day knowledge. True intelligence must include the ability to adapt to new situations.
In the third world where the informal sector plays a significant role in the economy, collation of accurate & reliable data can be quite a challenge. Data-driven decision making may be compromised to some extent as a result.
Besides AI solutions, businesses use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems extensively. They are software systems that consist of integrated modular business applications that share a common database that connects them and allows them to interact with one another. ERP systems help organizations to automate & streamline business processes for optimum performance. They track business resources such as cash, raw materials, production capacity, spares inventory and the status of business commitments: orders, purchase orders and fixed & variable costs. System modules usually include finance, production, HR, procurement, inventory management, asset management, projects management, sales etc.
For large businesses, especially the multi nationals, Oracle, SAP, SYSPRO etc. are in common use, even in the third world. QuickBooks, Tally, FreshBooks are popular with smaller businesses.
Competence in many of these applications are essential for a graduate of Bachelor of Commerce.
