How much do major league umpires make?
A few of my friends really want to become MLB umpires but aren't sure how much they make annually. Does this differ depending on the team and where in the U.S. you are or is it pretty much the same for every professional umpire? #baseball #umpire #professional-sports #sports

Hi Lindsey,
A unique but great question. Umpires in MLB actually make fantastic livings. I actually used to umpire Little League baseball and the money was good there as well. To answer quickly, MLB Umpires make anywhere from $100,000/year up to $350,000/year depending on their years in the league. it takes hard work and dedication to rise through the ranks to become a MLB umpire. Like players themselves, they have to start somewhere and work their way up the ladder. It's an achievable goal, you just need to be good at it. Good luck to you and your friends!

That's a great question as I can definitely help you with that, thanks to following the career of one of my home town hero's Charlie Reliford. MLB umpires earn about $120,000 annually when they're rookies, while experienced umps can earn up to $350,000 after an unspecified number of years in Major League Baseball. It does take a few year to get to the major league level, but to get started down the right path, I would definitely want to enroll in one of the following schools to get started. The Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School or Minor League Baseball Umpire Training Academy is a great place to start. Good luck and I hope this helped.
