Hello, Taylor !

Wow. I have to say that I am very impressed with your professional quality portfolio and Linked In profile ! You are a real winner who will go far !

Now, although we advisors do not actually send people to job openings, I can and would love to share some advice for you. You are going to an awesome college. After seeing your experience and work, it is just an opinion, but I think you should switch to majoring in Graphic Arts. Math is a good subject to learn and master, however it doesn't have a specific career point and a degree in Graphic Arts, especially when you are in New York City, would be amazing and put you at the forefront of various and many opportunities, I believe.

Baruch is well known for offering Internship Placement to students during their Junior and Senior years. They are given through Weissman School of Arts and Sciences and the Weissman Center for International Business and a graphic arts internship may be available through Weissman if you major in Graphic Arts. Try anyway even if you stay with Math as a major. Speak with your professors about this internship opportunity and see what they say.

The next thing you can do is list yourself in AIGA NY, the online directory for Graphic Artists . People just may hire you to work on various projects. General Assembly provides support and space for graphic artists so it would be a good idea to contact them. Look into the Graphic Artists Guild. This union offers resources. The Percent for Art Artist Directory would be important to be listed in for work that the city does when they need graphic artists. Indeed has jobs in all categories, online or in person so register at Indeed, too, to see who is hiring.

I advise not overlooking Toy Companies in NYC. They all have an Art Director position that, if there's an opening, may be an opportunity and usually even the small ones hire an assistant artist for the art director. It's worth a try. I say go for it.

The only thing I am concerned about is that your Bachelors Degree will be in Math and I would not hesitate to switch to Graphic Design, even if it means staying at school extra time. Just FYI, you are allowed to change your major at Baruch even in your Junior year. The only glitches about it is if you are changing the major to Business which would not be in your instance. Think about this and come to a decision about what you'd like to do and how strong or weak the Bachelors will be for what you really want to do. The decision is up to you to make. Also talk about this with the Chair or Dean at the Art Department.

I hope this is helpful and I wish you all the best. I really believe that I'll be seeing your work all around one day !
