how difficult is it to become a geologist how can it relate to soccer where should I go to college if I want to study the weather what are some things I can do to work towards getting into Auburn

I'm nervous to move out of state for college but I want to go to Auburn and play soccer while studying science and or climatology

Thank you comment icon You mentioned geology and studying weather. Did you mean meteorology? Geology is the study of rocks and earthly material like that. Neither is related to soccer, but you're allowed to have multiple interest! Why not do both? Dr Fisch

Hello, Chenoa !

Auburn University (I am guessing it's this college in Alabama) does not offer a major or classes in Meteorology, but does offer Geology. Verify this with staff at their college. Geology is important to have if you want to be a meteorologist because there is connection with the earth and atmosphere, so you're thinking on the right track. You should always choose a college based on the program that will prepare you for a career. A good path would be to Major in Meteorology and Minor in Geology or Earth Science at a college that offers that option. You'll need the degree in meteorology to obtain employment, not geology. Your chances of obtaining work are greater as a meteorologist than would be as a geologist unless you want to teach these subjects. It's ultimately your choice after you become well informed. Right now is the time to focus on academic preparation and extracurriculars for college can be worked in once you acclimate to your college schedule and routine.

A career as a Meteorologist will not be difficult for you if you absolutely love the subject with all your heart and mind. You will need to dedicate a lot of time to studying as there is a lot to learn. You'll also have to be someone who loves to read and write and loves doing field work at different locales in the area. You will also have to make solid, strong connections with your classmates and professors and be involved in group activities.

As for soccer, it's an awesome sport and you should continue to play all through high school. You will have to explore the college of your choice for the availability of a soccer opportunity for your category. It's always great to know early that you want to be a college athlete, but your career goals are important and my advice is to find a college that offers the program you need for a career that also offers a soccer opportunity. You should do this by contacting various colleges. Soccer and any sport is totally separate from geology and meteorology so soccer does not play into the two subjects you've mentioned.

Try to pinpoint exactly what career you want to work at, then you will be able to choose a major and a college that will prepare you for your future as well as offer a soccer opportunity. Look into your local colleges for the program and sports activity you would like. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best in all you do !

Can I offer a suggestion to help you out? I truly believe in your potential. It seems like your mind is buzzing with ideas, which is great! It just means you have lots of interests and possibilities. First, take a deep breath and relax. Try writing down everything you want to achieve on a piece of paper. Once you have your list, focus on each goal one at a time and think about the best way to reach it. By tackling them individually, you'll find it easier and less overwhelming. You mentioned different majors and soccer, which is exciting! Try asking questions about each topic separately to get clearer answers. This way, you'll have a better plan and feel more confident moving forward. You've got this! 😊
