Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Lailla !

With very little information about yourself, your age, region in which you live, experience and interests, no one can tell you what job you can obtain today. Employment placement is a very detailed venture and it is not as casual as asking what job you can get, especially when someone doesn't know you.

To become aware about what goes into employment, you will need to gain knowledge of the process and obtain skills so that you can get paid for work that people need you to do. You do not obtain a job just because you want one or people tell you names of jobs. A lot goes into being prepared for that first job and if you approach it wanting to know the steps and information, you will be headed in the right direction.

People are hired to do work that they know how to do. Make a list of actual hands on work you can do well enough that someone can pay you for it. Think about doing volunteer work at first if you have no in person work experience at a company. You can volunteer at any number of places in your community if you are of age and this can prepare you for a job. Work is much more than being smart and following directions. If you are in the United States call or have your parent call your local Department of Labor to find out if there are any employment services or programs for students in your age group. Many times these programs place students in their first paid job, so find out as soon as you can.

Keeping a job is just as important as knowing how to get a job. Do a self evaluation to see where you are with certain general skills you'll need to hold a job. Some of these are complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people interaction and management, coordinating with others, emotional intelligence, judgment and decision making, service orientation, negotiation, and cognitive flexibility. You will hone these skills as you progress and having these skills as well as good verbal, written and computer skills will be very valuable for obtaining a job.

So even though no one can tell you specifically what job you personally can get today, you can start your journey by doing volunteer work and seeking employment programs and services that will teach you and you'll know just how to get that job you want ! I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. I am glad to know you are smart. Have you thought about what career you have interest?
Below are my suggestions:
1. Think about what you have interest, eg your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc and identify the related careers
Eg if you like music, would you like to be a musician, singer, musical artist, music composer, music producer, etc
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, etc
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
