Hi 👋 everyone, I have received wonderful guidance on my pursuit to work towards becoming a nurse! I have to start preparing and studying for the TEAS exam; I’m filled with anxiety and depression all at once! I have purchased the materials to help me with my studies and prepare myself for the exam. I would like to know if anyone has taken the exam, if so, was the exam difficult, or not as hard as I am imagining I’ve read some people say they had to retake it after failing, others passed on the first time. I was planning to start studying in April to the beginning of August and then schedule the exam; I feel 5 months of studying will help me to comprehend and understand. The test covers reading, math, science, and English/writing, and my kryptonite is math and science (not all of it but some of it like chemistry!) Please 🙏 can someone offer some advice, guidance, help, and tips please! I’ll be so grateful and thankful 🥹 to you! Thank you! 🙏 ?
Seeking advice, guidance, help, and tips!

Hello, Donna M. !
Wow, it is so cool to know that you are preparing for the Test of Essential Academic Skills exam for your Nursing Program ! In general, there are some things you can sharpen before taking the exam and reviewing the makeup of the exam may help you study the things you'll need. There are only four subjects that you will be tested on for this exam. As you probably can tell from the study materials you already have, the subjects are Reading, Mathematics, Science and English Language and Usage.
For the Reading Section, it tests your ability to pick out key ideas and details from what you read, craft and structure and your ability to integrate knowledge with ideas. In the Math Section, you'll be tested on things about numbers and there is some Algebra on this section, too. You will also be tested on measurements and data as well. Don't worry, I took the SAT and I was horrific at Math and it didn't mess up my score. Science is part of this exam as you already know. The subject matter for the questions will be focused on human anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, and scientific reasoning. The section for English will have questions to test your knowledge of language, and using language and vocabulary to express ideas in writing. There is no writing involved in this exam - multiple choice, choice select and fill in the blank type questions are on the exam.
My advice is to study with the intent of understanding the process. It won't help to memorize anything (except maybe the science subjects). For the English portion, study from your materials, but also try some of the language quizzes at Dictionary... dot... com. If you get stuck on some of the study questions, look online about the process that is involved to find the answer. It's difficult to not worry about it, I know, but take breaks and schedule a structured study time for it. The following websites also offer free practice tests for the TEAS: NurseHub, Mometrix, and Spalding University Library. There is also the TEAS Mastery App that you can use for three days.
I never took the TEAS nor am I a nurse but I wanted to show some support and encouragement to you as you prepare. I wish you all the best !
