What are good summer opportunities for someone intrested in teaching?

I am currently a 9th grader that is looking for summer opportunities mainly through things such as internships, camps, and workshops. I am looking for a more ways other then just volunteering for one event as though it gives you hours it doesn't mean much more. I doesn't matter if I need to write an essay need recommendation letters etc. to get in as I am able to attain and do all of it. I have experience in the volunteer field as I have been volunteering since before 6th grade for multiple events and have experience reaching out to organizations to ask questions and events that I can help with. (It also doesn't matter if it's paid or not.)

Hello, Kathy !

The Summer Youth Employment Program, given in your town by El Proyecto del Barrio at Youth Source Centers in The Valley is for teens ages 16 to 24, so you can apply for a job through them when you turn 16. You can request to be placed at a school.

Shaffer's High Sierra Campoffer is a two week camp for 14 year olds that have been there before. Contact them to see how you can start this camp. It is for teens who want to become teachers providing training and leadership skills. The
Pali Adventures: camp provides leadership skills for students who are 15 and 16 years old. You can contact these places when you turn the starting age.

Since you are 14, there are no Internships that have been publicly noted for your age group. Internships are usually for college students that are in their Junior and Senior year in college or have already graduated college.

Your quickest and best bet will be to seek a Volunteer Position. I am sorry that you did not discover the value in the volunteer work you have already done, but if you want to secure a learning experience that will provide skills for your future career, at this time, I advise doing volunteer work. You are not exactly going to be able to take Education courses right now or learn how to become a teacher just yet. Volunteer work carries a lot of weight, not only from the experience with it, but it goes on your resume to show that you have experience. It is very valuable. It is very important to not discount any volunteer work you do as there are many skills you'll need to have as a teacher and volunteering in any capacity will help train you for those skills.

You can go to various schools in your district to see what help they may need during the summer, Summer School, Meal Program, etc. Try the public and private schools.

If you want to know about theories and techniques of Education, something that you will get in college, you can easily borrow books from the Library on the subject. Reading will teach you a lot. You can even borrow books about early childhood development and early childhood education. In addition, it is important that you ask your teachers and guidance counselor about any camps or youth employment programs for 14 year olds that may not be listed on the internet.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !

Jerry’s Answer

First, I would pay particular attention to Michelle's detailed answer.

The only thing I would add is most schools, especially in urban areas, offer summer programs to their students. That just may well be an interesting and productive student situation to get involved with.
