Hi Clayton!
Right now, try and interact with other musicians in school and see if there are others who are also interested in creating and performing music and wanting to eventually have a successful career in music. That is one idea to get you started, but if you're like me and you're not very outgoing and don't feel comfortable doing that, that's okay too! What I did in Highschool was listen to a lot of music that inspired me and practiced my instrument (piano) and eventually started writing my own songs. The great thing about being a songwriter is that you can express your feelings in music and lyrics either on your own or with others. As you get older, or even now, check into courses you can take regarding technical skills (production, engineering, etc.). You can still write songs and play gigs, but you'll also have those additional skills that might get you work in a studio. Explore those things. There are different roads you can take. See which one (or ones) feel right to you. Most of all, focus on your love and passion for music. Create your own music and just enjoy the process! At some point you might also want to try open mic nights which could also lead to paying gigs (either as a solo artist or with a band). Hope this helps a little. God bless you!

Hello, Clayton !
A music career is so awesome and you can begin now obtaining experience while you are still in high school before attending college.
There is no real Music Business in Camden-on-Gauley, WV, however there are a couple of connections you can make now if you are willing to put in lots of time and hard work. Visit the School of Rock and take singing lessons for your age group that can lead to performances through their school. Camden Music also provides music opportunities for students your age. Also check with your local community centers. There may be something happening for the summer.
Always be involved in sharpening your talents by taking music, singing, chorus while in high school. This is a great time to build up your experience and be around other singers and musicians. Many students start their own band and play all through high school. My classmates way back in high school had a popular band called Metamorphosis. Back in the sixties when my sister was in high school, the cool local band was The Sapiens. Creating your own band will give you a fine foundation for taking it up a notch in college. Make a visit to Blues Alley Studios in Westover and even ask if you can do volunteer work there to learn the tech end of recording.
In college major in Music. You will have opportunities, learn more about the business and make valuable contacts that are needed for this career. Stay active and strive for good grades and you will go far ! I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !

Hi Clayton!
Hey! Getting into the music business is all about passion and persistence. Start by honing your skills, whether it’s playing, writing, or producing music. From there, play local gigs to get experience and build a following. Share your music online, on platforms like SoundCloud or YouTube, and use social media to connect with fans.
Networking is super important too, so try to meet other musicians, producers, and people in the industry. When you’re ready to release your own music, there are indie platforms that can get your songs on streaming services. Just keep putting your music out there and learning about the business side as you go—it all adds up!
Good luck with everything! Keep pushing forward!
