How would you go about choosing a career path if you decided your major first?
I am going to college to major in marine science, but the career options are broad. Is it best to decide after getting more experience in my classes, or should I be doing independent research about my career options?

Thank you for your question. You can start with the careers that is related to the major you have chosen given this is the subject you have interest.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Given you have interest in Marine Science, would you like to be marine animal trainer, marine biologist, zoologist, park ranger, wildlife specialist, etc. You can find out more related careers online.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, college career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Choose the relevant subjects in your study
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

There is no harm doing both. By researching independently, you may be drawn to one aspect that you didn't realise was an option. The more you know and the more you are aware of where your interest lies, you will be more likely to recognise opportunities when you are in class. It will enable you to make conscious informed decisions rather than leaving it to luck.

Hey Alexis -
I have two kids in college, and I've encouraged them to explore their classes to find out what they enjoy. For instance, my son was doing great in his Finance classes, so he decided to major in Finance. Also, doing research is a great idea because it gives you practical experience and feedback on your work. Hope this helps!
