What jobs should I look into based on my interests?
Hi all. I've thought I wanted to be a dermatologist for a while now but I'm having doubts in my capability to do so. I am very passionate for Motorsports like formula one, and would totally work in that realm if I had the chance. I would also totally work corporate. I am in high school still but I'm super stressed over what I'm to do with my life and have no idea what to major in. The only thing is I'd prefer to have a very comfortable salary, but find it difficult to find job ideas. I also find myself very drawn to creative or artsy jobs, but hate the pay. Any help or career options?? I will take all the advice I can get... seriously.

If you're looking for a versatile option that will expand your career options, a degree in business management is a great choice. I have three degrees in it and am working on a Ph.D. because it offers so much to learn. Almost every company needs business majors, giving you the chance to explore different fields after graduation. While getting a graduate degree like an M.B.A. or Ph.D. can help you compete confidently, it’s not a must. Many people find great jobs through their personalities and networking skills. I'm thrilled for you and impressed by how you're handling this decision. Enjoy the journey ahead!

So the cool thing about college is the first two years is just an extension of High School (on steroids). You have a bunch of basic classes to get through English, Math, Social Sciences, etc... A major will surface. Michael has a lot of good advice on some introspective work you need to do. Many individuals that are in your position opt for a gap year. (I will visit this later)
Talk to your guidance counselor, there a lot of various tests out there which will help you determine jobs/ careers for which you have an aptitude.
For any young adult, who approaches me with this concern, I advocate that they talk to the military recruiters assigned to their school. The ASVAB is one of those test which give the recruiter a good idea of what type of job field you would best fit. This can be a "gap year(s)" adventure. Not only will you potentially get job /career experience; but you will be living on your own in a secure environment, gaining leadership skills, and traveling. CAUTION: Recruiters have a job too. To put people into the open active positions needed at that specific place and time. So keep in mind your goal is to gain skills that you would like to transition to in civilian life. Although you can move to different career choices after enlistment it is very difficult. DO NOT GO IN AS UNDESIGNATED! Although you will gain leadership skills and have opportunities, it will be a harder road.
Always have a plan B . I googled Formula One Corporate Jobs: Who knew? Your profile doesn't say where you are from. No a lot of opportunity in the U.S. Are you willing to move to England, Italy, Brazil? That is a big decision! If so, you will want to research what college would be like in those countries or online college degrees. Keep in mind time differences. My daughter signed up for online college not thinking of the time difference between California and Florida, and had to make adjustments to accommodate.
What ever you decide I wish you happiness, health, and knowledge.

My recommendation is don't pressure yourself to have all the answers now. Try a lot of things and see if anything really works for you. If you can talk to people working in the professions you're considering they could give you a better perspective of what a real day in the life looks like so you can better assess if it's a viable option for you. Sometimes we think we want a job but then you get into the details and realize it's not for you. See if your school or community have any programs that can help you connect with working professionals to do some career exploration.
Also, not all creative jobs are low paying. Creative directors, marketing professionals, videographers, etc. can all make solid money and have relatively stable careers within companies. Every job comes with pros and cons and it will be up to you to eventually figure out what you really want. Just know, that what you really want and need will shift throughout your career and your life. I have had times where stability was critical for me and I put up with a lot and other times trying new things was a risk I was willing to take. It's ok to do different things and see what suits you.
Good luck to you and I hope you get some opportunities to try things out and learn what you want to explore further.
