How do I get involved with a marching band or a drum corps when my high school doesn’t have one?
I am a trumpet player going into high school next fall. I have been playing for three years and I love it. I’ve heard and looked forward to marching and preforming, and I’ve seen other high schools march before and that excites me. However, my high school doesn’t have one and our entire band has maybe 20 people. How do I get involved and learn to march?

Hello, Peityn !
Yes, parades are always exciting and uplifting and I can only imagine how it feels to be in a marching band. I understand your love for it.
You would not be able to go to a high school in the Los Angeles City School District where they may offer marching band. You are in the Escalon Unified School District and both districts have very defined boundaries and policies about this. You can, however, attend high school at Burwood, Collegeville, Dent Union, Farmington, Four Tree, Lone Tree, and Van Allen. Find out if their high schools offer marching band.
So sorry, but there are no community marching bands in Escalon, either. When a marching band is needed in Escalon, they are hired from out of town. There is one marching band in Escalon consisting of 6 people that is Portuguese culture based, but most of their performances are not "marching" while playing.
I was hoping that there may even be a fife and drum corps in your town, but there isn't. That would have come close to getting the experience of marching. I know it's a long time from now, four years, but most likely in college you will be able to choose an opportunity to be in a marching band. I really am sorry to give this information, but at least it will save you some time and you can look forward to college. In the meantime, in high school, join orchestra and see if the orchestra plays at different shows at the high school during the year. Another thing that may be fun in high school is to see if you can get some students together to do street entertainment playing at malls or landmarks that have a lot of foot traffic so people can hear your music.
I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
