Hi Bryce,
To me, the best major in college is something that you truly enjoy but also will allow you to make a living at your desired means.
You've probably heard the first half of my answer a lot - people say that you should do something you truly enjoy because let's face it, if you're working a 9-to-5 like most people, you're spending 8 hours a day (or a third of your life) in your career - so you should probably enjoy going into work every day!
The second half of my answer is something people don't often publicly say, but they often think it. You likely have a vision for yourself down the road and the more grandiose your vision is, the more money you'll need to get there. I recommend doing some research for some majors that you have in mind and the median salaries after college.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Dear Bryce,
I'm glad you are thinking of becoming an engineer. The engineering profession touches people's lives in many different ways: movement, communication, comfort, learning, entertainment, work, health, shelter, clothing, cleaning, measurement etc. Many options do exist: civil, electrical, structural, production, mechanical, software, biomedical, electronics engineering etc. To be able to persue any engineering course, you need to study foundational subjects in high school: mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer applications, design & graphics etc.
Internships are essential as they provide you the opportunity to get hands-on experience, apply theoretical knowledge in real life situations, get familiar with technical standards, regulations, and acquire critical skills: analytical, problem solving, leadership skills & ability to work in teams etc.
Membership in professional associations is equally important as they introduce you to standards for practice, professional mentorship & guidance, best practices etc.
Choosing a professional career that earns you a decent living is crucial. So is choosing something you love doing that can draw the very best out of you.
As engineers, our true mission is meeting the needs of society that require engineering solutions.

Hello. Bryce, It's great that you have some idea about what career you want to pursue. You can do a gut check by asking yourself a few questions. Do you enjoy solving complicated problems; do you like to figure out how things work? Are you lazy? That last question was a curve ball. Creative people tend to look for alternative ways of doing things. That's what engineers do quite often.
Take an apptitude test. Your guidance/career counselor can help you find the right resources. The results could clarify things for you.
Do you know people who are engineers? Talk to them. Find out Some good answers came before I they do in their jobs. If you can do a job "shadow," that could be very enlightening for you.
Do not hesitate to ask questions - parents, teachers, anyone who has an
interest in your next steps .
Good luck to you, Bryce. Find the shoe that fits!

Hi Bryce, it's awesome that you're thinking so much about picking a major! There's really no "best" major out there. What's most important is finding what fits you best. Engineering is a fantastic choice since it builds great skills like logical thinking and problem-solving that are useful in many areas. But, remember to think about a few key things: first, your interests and talents because being passionate can really help; second, the job prospects and growth opportunities in that field; and finally, whether your personality matches the work style in that area. It might be helpful to chat with older students or try out some professional activities. I'm sure you'll make the best choice for yourself!
