Hi TyReke,
I come to you as a black belt in BJJ, Masters BJJ World Champion, as well as a Collegiate Wrestling All-American. I've also worked with fighters that have competed in the UFC, as well as in Bellator.

Being a Professional Mixed Martial Artist is something that would take an extreme amount of hard work and dedication. If I understand the questions correctly, and you are looking to be a competitive fighter at the highest levels (i.e. UFC or Bellator), I would also consider a career to fall back on. Many fighters ultimately operate their owns schools, coach at other academies, or personal train for their full-time careers.

The career and lifestyle of a fighter is relatively short lived because of the potential damage to the body and many times the brain. I don't say this to discourage you either. I would always encourage one to follow his/her dreams, especially at a young age. That being said, I would go in with my 'eyes wide open' and understand that fighting is much like any other professional sports career; very competitive and difficult to get to the top, relatively short in terms of career length, and requires one to be extremely tough, both mentally and physically.

Good luck in your choices my friend!

Hi,
Good question...I think most people in the martial arts career field are Instructors so owning your own studio/Dojo would be a good option. Below is a good link to get you started learning more about careers and the usadojo.com association.
