Do you have any advice pertaining to how to make the most of a freshman summer program?

I'm doing a summer program that allows me to get 13 credit hours before the rest of the freshman. I think it will be a fantastic way for me to get to know campus before 'real' school begins. This means a smaller, more individualized class size, but it also means a shorter term.

Should I take subjects I struggle with (aka Math) during the summer due to the small class size, or avoid it due to the shortened term?

Thanks! #summer-programs #freshman

Hi Lexi,

In my experience I would recommend not to take a subject you struggle with because it´s always challenging to keep up on a short term period because of the fast pace if you have trouble with some topic is more difficult to catch up with if every day you have new material on the same subject. Apart since you are doing this as a freshman maybe will be better for you to also use the summer to get to know the school, resources so when you actually start the long term period you are upfront.

Hi Lexi,

It's great that you are doing this Summer Program to get a jump on your studies. I agree with Maria that it's probably not the best Summer to take a challenging subject, especially Math. When I first went off to college from a small town, it was an adjustment for me to get aquatinted to the new environment, being away from what I was use to and learning my way around. My point there is that you'll want to be more comfortable with the new environment before taking on your harder subjects. I'd suggest taking some courses that are fun and you like so you get off on really good footing and be set up for success.
