When is it too late to shift to another course?
I am an upcoming second year college student, taking up a business related course, but I don't even know why. I want to shift to another course, related to science and something I have great interest in. Is it too late for me to shift? #college #business #science #finance #major

Hi Mariel O.,
Just keep in mind there are different outcomes for getting out of a course in college. This is different than changing majors. If you are past the drop/add period for the semester, there are registrar policies in place. Take a look at the Registrar's Office website to look at their policies and expectations for course attendance and attrition (dropping out). If you are wishing to change majors, like the previous employer mentioned, visit your school's career services center to see what other majors are available. An academic advisor and a program guide will be able to assist you in seeing what classes you already have completed can count towards the new major's requirements.
Hope that helps!

This is a great time to change your major. Set up an academic advising session as soon as possible to ensure you get the classes you want for next term and avoid losing progress toward graduation. By the way, it is never too late to change careers. It just becomes more difficult later on.

Hi,
Good question, I think this may actually be the perfect time to switch...college is really about learning and sometimes you learn that what you wanted 1-2 years ago has changed or your interests have changed. You are young, in college and this is your time to experience a lot of different things in your life. I would suggest talking to an Advisor/Counselor on campus, friends family and even your parents to get different opinions and advice on what to change to if you are unsure.
Enjoy your college experience and years...good luck! :)

I actually changed majors during college from Business to Communications. Ironically, I went back to school years later and got my MBA to fortify my resume since I work in Communications in the business world. I would say if you're in your second year, it's actually a good time to change majors. Most of the courses you've likely taken to date are more generic and can apply to multiple degree plans. After your second year, your upper level classes will be degree specific. Keep in mind that there may be some that are not transferrable so you may end up taking more courses if you change direction so it could take you longer to graduate and end up being a more costly path to take. Good luck either way!
