How do I ensure my place in a veterinary program?

I am currently a college student trying to knock out the classes required as prerequisites to become a vet. I just want to see if there's any thing outside of the minimum requirements to make sure I have a place in whatever university I decide to apply to when I get to that point of my life.

Hi Riena, I'm not sure how you can ensure your place in a Vet program as they all tend to be highly competitive. Here are some things to consider. Have you contacted the Vet school you intend to apply to? Here is the link to the UPenn vet school admissions: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/education/admissions If you haven't visited the school, that would be a good idea if possible. The office of admissions should be able to tell you how to optimize your admission application process (ie exactly what do they look for in a sucessful applicant).

Todd recommends the following next steps:

I would also recommend that you think strategically as well as tacitcally. What I mean by that is it took me two years to get into Vet school, what will you do if you are not accepted the first time? Do you have a plan B if you can't get in? Graduate school? Work in industry until you can get in? Pursue another line of animal related or science related work?
