How to find unique internships or research experience?

I have really wanted a bit more solid work experience over the summer that can make me stand out as a candidate for future jobs or potentially to med schools. I know so many people that get internships or research experience over the summer, but I have no idea where to find these opportunities. Are there any good resources to try and find these? Any advice on how to get accepted?

When I was looking for internships, I found it really helpful looking at my school's career website, LinkedIn, and just googling internships with certain keywords that were tailored to what I was looking for. You can also reach out to certain hospitals or research organizations close by to see if they have any openings. Good luck!

Most companies are looking for people with a relevant course load, a decent GPA, team experience, leadership experience, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. I would also recommend having someone in your desired field to look over your resume and cover letter. Good luck!

I was interested in building up my matlab skills during my third undergraduate and managed to find and get accepted as a summer intern at Cornell. This was pre linkedin days so I mainly used google and my undergraduate institution also has a pretty good list of opportunities that might be worth going through. I would recommend spending some effort on your cv and cover letter to tailer it to the position and dont be afraid to justify your interest. Lastly make sure to have friends proofread your documents, typos are a major turnoff to reviewers. Hope you find a good position. Good luck. (https://people.rit.edu/gtfsbi/Symp/summer.htm

The biggest boon you could have for finding a quality internship would be to network. You mentioned knowing a lot of people who got internships. Try reaching out to people who have landed other internships and asking them if they are aware of other internships that haven't been filled yet. Also, if you can, reach out to anyone you know who works at a company in the industry you're considering and see if there company is hosting an internship. That way, you have someone that will speak on your behalf if you're interested in the position.
