Who has inspired politicians to help better the lives of others through legislation?
I am a senior in high school and I really enjoy politics and international relations/affairs. I want to better the lives of people all around the world. I also want to know why people think the way I do, that all people deserve the best possible situations and that normally these ideal situations can be found through legislation. #college-majors #high-school #international-politics

Molly, this is such a great question. I’ve spent a big part of my professional life trying to connect people to politicians so that the latter can see the real world implications of the legislation they support. In my experience, what inspires legislators is finding a way to connect your personal story to an issue. If you care about bringing affordable and quality healthcare to people, think about a time when healthcare made a difference in your life or the life of someone you love - would having it have made a difference? Did not having it make a difference? You can say the same for any issue - education, minimum wage, etc. YOU can inspire politicians to improve the lives of others by talking about your issue through your own lens. It probably wouldn’t hurt to find a organization that aligns with your goals, either to help as a connector. And if you master your story, you’ll be an amazing advocate for yourself!

Love this question! Examples include the Parkland students these days. In the past Martin Luther King, Jr. On a daily basis large corporations are as well. I’ll also put in a next step below with a link to the website where you can see another example. And I will also ask a colleague of mine to come in and give another perspective.
