Ken’s Answer

It depends on several factors, but generally you gain very much by the physical inter personal interaction between professor and student and between student and student. Your success in your career will depend very much on your ability to interact and share with others and have others share with you their experience, opportunities, success, failures, etc. The way most professionals keep up with their professional requirements and training and even promotion opportunity is through interaction with others in their field. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I have developed these tips which have helped many. As you are considering your career area, it would be very interesting to do the testing and networking and determine from your interaction with others in your intended career area which they found most beneficial for them and what you might find most beneficial for you.

Ken recommends the following next steps:

Getting to know yourself and how your personality traits relate to people involved in various career opportunities is very important in your decision making process. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I ran across too many students who had skipped this very important step and ended up in a job situation which for which they were not well suited. Selecting a career area is like buying a pair of shoes. First you have to be properly fitted for the correct size, and then you need to try on and walk in the various shoe options to determine which is fits the best and is most comfortable for you to wear. Following are some important steps which I developed during my career which have been helpful to many .
The first step is to take an interest and aptitude test and have it interpreted by your school counselor to see if you share the personality traits necessary to enter the field. You might want to do this again upon entry into college, as the interpretation might differ slightly due to the course offering of the school. However, do not wait until entering college, as the information from the test will help to determine the courses that you take in high school. Too many students, due to poor planning, end up paying for courses in college which they could have taken for free in high school.
Next, when you have the results of the testing, talk to the person at your high school and college who tracks and works with graduates to arrange to talk to, visit, and possibly shadow people doing what you think that you might want to do, so that you can get know what they are doing and how they got there. Locate and attend meetings of professional associations to which people who are doing what you think that you want to do belong, so that you can get their advice. These associations may offer or know of intern, coop, shadowing, and scholarship opportunities. These associations are the means whereby the professionals keep abreast of their career area following college and advance in their career. It is very important to express your appreciation to those who help you along the way to be able to continue to receive helpful information and to create important networking contacts along the way. Lais’s Answer

This choice involves different factors. For example, if you want more flexibility the best alternative would be online schooling, however, if you want a direct contact with teachers and others students to increase your networking, attend in person is a good choice. So, it is necessary balance your needs and opportunities to conclude what is the best for you.

Tanner’s Answer

You will always gain better benefits from in-person. You meet people, do team projects, do public speaking, are basically forced to be in a room listening and build networks, etc. This is not even factoring in on-campus events, groups, etc.

Graeme’s Answer

As someone who has taken several online classes in my college career, I highly recommend going to school in-person if you are able to. Having face to face interactions with peers and professors can help clarify topics that you might be confused about and also building relationships with people is very beneficial. Through my experience, I've found that I've expanded my horizons and comfort levels through my peers. Had I not been exposed to these opportunities, I do not think I would have the same level of education and career that I now have.

Brandon’s Answer

Deciding between attending college in person or online schooling involves several factors. First, do you know your living situation? If you attend college in person, it may involve having to move to a location closer to the school to make attending classes easier to get to. If you do online schooling, you can work remotely from any area with wi-fi. Secondly, cost is a factor. Online schools are generally cheaper since you don't have to pay a lot of the student fees that come with attending class in person. Finally, you want to consider the relationship aspect of school. If you attend class in person, you will be able to see classmates and professors in person to interact with them. If you do online, your interactions with your peers and professors will be limited.

In conclusion, online schooling provides a lot more flexibility due to not having to physically be in a class. But attending in person provides more opportunities to interact with your peers and professors.

Joshua T.N’s Answer

I'd suggest going to college in person due to the vast opportuntities it provides as described below:

1) Leadership opportunity - College in person will provide the opportunity for you to sharpen your leadership skills. You'll be able to see what's happening on campus, attend school or organization events, lead existing student organization or lead certain initiatives or protests, volunteer or even tutor/mentor incoming students, work on campus etc

2) Networking opportunity - College in person will help you to network with internal (students, peers, and team members) and external stakeholders - (recruiters, presenters/keynote speakers etc)

3) Student -to-professional relationship - College in person will help you enhance your relationships with peers, mentors/seniors, school administrations, professors and so on. You'll get a chance to pop in at your professor's office hour or school hosted events.

4) Sense of community - In college, there are many events and organizations you can opt to participate in, which will shape your life and career. In the real business world, team work and hard work are important. You will need to work on multiple things with others and deliver/measure results. College in person will help you practice and take initiatives on building your village or sense of community.
