Some people is born a artist they can dance, sing. Draw. Sketch. Paint, even write. You can go to college and learn to do the same thing. There is no time limit to teach yourself to sing. Dance draw, etc. Singers practice daily just like dancers, artist can take a paint brush and swip paint on paper and call it art. But to perfect it you have to work on it until your satisfied with the results. I sing people tell me I have a nice voice, but I sing for pleasure. I’m a Artist and I found out I was a artist by looking at a painting and instantly knew I could draw it. It took a pencil and sketch the painting from detail to detail. I then took classes and decided I did not need them I only have to look at a painting and draw, paint , or sketch it. It’s the same with danceing for me it’s easy show me how to do it once or twice and I got it. Everyone is different. You want to be a artist take classes on what you want to do and perfect it. Don’t stop doing it.

Being an artist is a lifelong pursuit... My art career started out when I was young and took classes in school - if you have art classes in your school you should take advantage of that. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube as well that show a variety of techniques. But really, it takes a lot of practice. Daily practice. There really is no time period that I can tell you it takes to be an artist. You start making art and you practice and get better every day.

I went to college for graphic design and have a full time job at a software company but I also have a pet portrait business on the side. I did not go to college for drawing and painting - I just continued to practice my art over the years. With the internet and websites like Etsy it is much easier to start an art based business than it was before. You just have to keep at it.
