Should I take AP Chemistry if I want to be a Computer Engineer?

Many say it's recommended to take 4 years of science in high school if they want to pursue a STEM field. #high-school

Hey Sharon,

I'm a student-intern working for Verizon this summer and a current computer engineering student going into my senior year at Penn State. I'd say it depends on the colleges you are looking at. Some schools, such as Penn State, require you to take a chemistry course. Furthermore, the transfer of AP credits should be taken into account as well when making this decision.

Specifically to computer engineering however, I'd say that an extensive knowledge of Chemistry is definitely not required for undergraduate courses (no experience with graduate courses).

My personal suggestion would be to take the course if it:

  1. makes sense given your main college options
  2. doesn't overload you with work (from I've heard, AP Chemistry is a difficult course)
