Some of the top qualities necessary for being an attorney are as follows:
- Strong Analytical Skills
- You have to be creative
- Strong Research Skills
- You need to have great interpersonal skills
- Ability to think logically and make reasonable judgement based on information presented and not emotionally
- You need to be able to work long hours researching and taking notes
- Be a great public speaker
- The ability to keep up with developments and changes to the legal field.
- You must have the ability to understand complex information encountered in legal research.
- Very strong writing skills
There is typically 7 years of college necessary to become a lawyer. 4 Year bachelors degree program and 3 years of law school. It is possible but extremely difficult to complete college and law school in less than 7 years. Ideally, you will want to major in the industry that you wish to become an attorney for. For example, if you want to be a public defender or a criminal prosecutor, you might seek a bachelors degree in criminal justice.
Some other degrees are in English, Economics, Philosophy, Prelaw, Criminal Justice.
