Yes, but not directly. High school internships have three direct benefits: (1) they allow you to discover what a certain career is like, which will allow you to find something you want to pursue, (2) they really allow you to improve your resume and your college applications because you will appear more driven than students who don't do anything fruitful with their extracurricular time, and (3) they help you develop a sense of professionalism from first-hand experience.

I definitely recommend doing an internship. I graduated from a school that required me to do a number of internships in order to complete my degree, and I can't stress how much it has helped me in finding my first job, finding more about what I do and don't like to do, as well as what work environments are best suited for me. Completing an internship will help you develop a lot of real work experiences that you may not receive from just going to school, giving you a heads up on other candidates when looking for jobs.

I absolutely think that a high school internship can help you find a career. You will gain very useful experience which will help build your resume and college application (if you choose to apply to college). You will be exposed to professionals in the field which will give you a good idea of what the industry is like. And even if you decide you do not wish to pursue that particular field, you will have had some professional experience that will help you build character.

Internships are one of the most sought after experiences recruiters look for when you are looking for that first full-time job. The earlier you start, the more you will thank yourself when that time comes. Of course internships are not just a resume padder and shouldn't be treated as such. They allow you to help determine what kind of career you might enjoy (or not enjoy), as well as giving you valuable insight into the professional world.

Internships are a great way to get real-world experience. The organizations that offer internships are interested in teaching and giving the intern a real educational experience vs a job where the employer's main concern is that you do something to help them. At least that is what I have experienced. As a high school student, an internship will allow you to learn about a field, make some contacts in the community, and build your resume. All really good things for your future career whether or not you decide to go in to that particular field later on. Good luck!

For sure internships are a great start to finding a possible career match. At a minimum it will allow you to explore different career paths; this is very important especially if you are not sure what you would like to do for a living. Plus as you move towards working different jobs you get earn great work experience.

I hope this helps.

My high school internship helped me on my career path. I worked hard to make sure that the people I worked with at that job really liked me, and that helped me later on when I needed recommendations for college and introductions to jobs. I didn't end up working at that same company, but the same people were helpful for me in my early career nonetheless.

Take any opportunity that interests you to find out if it is what you want to do. It is just as important to find out what you don't want to do, and if something interests you and you have an opportunity to see what it is really like through an internship, that is a great way to explore it. Also keep in mind that you are likely to have many different careers over time, I am on my 4th! This can take some of the pressure off of the decision to find exactly what you want to do, because believe me that can really change over time. One last thing - it is never to early to start building your professional network and interning is a great place to start. You are more likely to find a job through someone you know than by responding to a job posting, so the more people you know and build relationships with, the more people who can help you find your first, or next, great career!
