Teklemuz Ayenew’s Answer

If you excel in Biology, think about exciting careers in healthcare like medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or public health. If you're great at Social Sciences, consider fields like psychology, counseling, or social work. If you have a knack for Economics, Accounting, or Entrepreneurship, along with Mathematics, you might explore roles in HR, marketing, or management. Trying out different experiences through shadowing, volunteering or internships can help you discover what you truly enjoy. By focusing on your strengths and what you love doing over time, you'll find the right path more easily.

When I ask people about their dream job, I suggest they explore ways to pursue it to see if they enjoy it. Consider trying internships or part-time work, and connect with others in the field. Good luck!

Leah’s Answer

Hi Kate,
Those are wonderful qualities to have and to bring to your work life! I can think of quite a few career paths one might pursue when those two qualities are prominent. I wonder if you might be interested in learning more about any of these: Therapy or Psychology, Medical care ( for people or animals), Coaching, Human Resources, Leadership, Education/teaching... While each of these career paths requires different training and schooling, they all benefit from having an individual who embodies genuine care and interest in others' well-being. You're starting strong, knowing who you are and what qualities you will bring to your work, regardless of what career path you choose:)

Leah recommends the following next steps:

Reflective exercises to hone in on where your interest is: journaling, continuing to reach out to ask questions
Think about if you are willing to be in school for an extended amount of time if a career requires more years to get a degree, or if you prefer a different route that does not require more years of schooling
If there are certain career paths you decide you might like to investigate, look at schools that offer those degrees and see what the classes/program for that degree are to see if it peaks your interest to help you decide

Melissa’s Answer

Helping people can lead to careers in areas like management, human resources, or nursing. It's important to consider the environments you enjoy and your other interests. When you mention acceptance, I think of resilience—the ability to work in tough situations, which is a valuable trait. Is that what you mean by acceptance?

I also like helping others through leadership, which I discovered in my software sales career. I find it rewarding to guide my team and help them grow. I didn't start in sales; I studied Marketing and Business in college, which opened doors to various careers. Each job taught me what I enjoy and excel at, as well as what I don't.

Besides considering what you enjoy, think about what success means to you. Is it mainly about helping others, or is financial gain important too?

Christine’s Answer

If you're into helping people and being accepting of others, there are a lot of careers that could fit those strengths. If you're interested in the idea of corporations or how businesses work, marketing and other related business fields could be something to look into. As someone who recently graduated with a degree in marketing, I learned that a lot of the field revolves around building relationships between businesses and clients and understanding what people need.

Knowing how to represent yourself and a business to others is an important skill, especially when it comes to building trust, gaining traction, and generating sales. Advertising can also apply to this if you're interested in creating graphics, content, or campaigns that connect with people. I like to think of marketing as a type of "business psychology" because you learn a lot about communication, consumer behavior, and the relationships that businesses build with their audiences.

Some careers that could relate to these strengths include marketing, human resources, customer relations, recruiting, public relations, nonprofit work, and community outreach. Skills such as communication, empathy, teamwork, active listening, and problem-solving can help you succeed in these areas. It all depends on what feels right for you and what you're willing to put time into learning and developing. Exploring different opportunities, volunteering, and gaining experience can help you figure out which path is the best fit for you.

Below are my suggestions :
1. There are many careers that can help people, e.g. Social Workers, Project Managers in NGOs, Client Services, Doctor, Nurse, Work in Rehabilitation Centers, School Counsellors, Police, etc. you can find out more online
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
