When you are performing, you will know immediately if it is fun or not. If it is the right thing for you, then it's the best place to be. I find performing really drives me to push myself. What is not fun is getting repeatedly rejected in casting call after casting call, and struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month. There just are not many opportunities to perform professionals and a lot of people who want to act. And that difficulty means that the vast vast majority of people who give it a try find themselves living in penury before moving on to a different and more lucrative field. The rest of us who remain behind just live in penury for good (!). But once I get to perform, it is worth it.
