Hello Gianna. This depends on your major, what grades you want, etc. Difficult majors require more studying, like Mathematics, Engineering, and Nursing. Likewise, the amount of hours you are willing to commit to studying will affect how much you study. If you want all As, you will spend more time studying. All in all, though, on average, I think at least 3 hours of studying per class you are taking each week will lead you to success. If you are in 5 classes, I would allocate 15 hours to studying in order to study for 3 hours per class. It may seem like a lot, but spread over 7 days turns that 15 hours into a little over 2 hours per day. Again, more or less studying may be required depending on your major and your desire to earn good grades. I hope this helps!

The rule of thumb is that for a 3 credit course, you spend 7 to 9 hours per week on home work, study and exam prep.

Hi Gianna:
In college, a good rule of thumb for homework estimates that for each college credit you take, you’ll spend one hour in the classroom and two to three hours on homework each week. These homework tasks can include readings, working on assignments, or studying for exams.
Based upon these estimates, a three-credit college class would require each week to include approximately three hours attending lectures and six to nine hours of homework.
Extrapolating this out to the 15-credit course load of a full-time student, that would be 15 hours in the classroom and 30 to 45 hours studying and doing homework.
Best of luck to you!
