1. Meet with an advisor, early! Set up time to get to know your college advisor to discuss your 4 year plan and align to classes you are interested in. There are more opportunities than you can imagine in college, so start thinking of areas you want to learn more about.
2. Reflect on your short and long term goals. Think about where you see yourself in 1 year, 3 years, 10 years and work to create a path to get there.
3. Get involved in a community! Spend some time researching groups that you would like to be involved in. Whether that is greek life, leadership clubs, clubs related to your major, mentorship programs, or a job it is important to find somewhere to get involved to meet people who can help guide you in college.
4. Enjoy your break between high school and college. Spend time with yourself, family, and friends before you go to college, as this time cannot be replaced. Have fun before your next adventure!

Hi Tamarious,
Thank you so much for the question! First of all, congratulations on finishing up your senior year and for pursing a college degree, that's fantastic!
I always told my high school students that college is exactly what you make of it. My advice for you isn't so much about planning for day 1, rather it's about what you are going to start doing on day 1 to get the most out of your college experience. You'll see that college gives you a great amount of freedom and independence that you may be experiencing for the first time in your life (especially in a school setting). Take this freedom and seek out all opportunities available to you! Go to office hours, talk to your professors, make a commitment to attend all of your classes and study sessions, seek out tutoring, form study groups with friends/in your dorms etc. etc.
It's so easy for students to not seek out different opportunities and stay in their comfort zone because there isn't anyone telling them that they have to. My advice for you, seek out as much as you can from your college/university and you will undoubtedly have a great experience.
