What advice can you give to someone who is an introvert and just started college?

I told myself that I would not visit home until Thanksgiving. It gave me time to adjust, make friends, and not miss out on college events.

Sometimes the best thing to do is take your fears head on. Joining a speech class or theater class can force you out of your comfort zone. They will teach you techniques that will allow you to be more confident. I had a tendency to be shy but after taking speech it helped me a lot and helped me overcome my fears. You can also join a club of people that have similar interests! I now have lots of confidence and am extroverted!

I would recommend finding a group for an activity or interest that you have. Every University has multiple student groups and from personal experience meeting new people when you already share some commonality is much easier.

I too felt very intimidated by going to college and trying to fit in. There will always be a group of people that you will be able to connect with and look for those types of groups that meet so many days per month. Go with one of your hobbies and find people who enjoy the same types of things.
