Katelyn’s Answer

Hi Chrissell!

I too felt very intimidated by going to college and trying to fit in. There will always be a group of people that you will be able to connect with and look for those types of groups that meet so many days per month. Go with one of your hobbies and find people who enjoy the same types of things.

Katelyn recommends the following next steps:

Find a group that meets to discuss something you enjoy.

Gabrielle’s Answer

Get involved in activities you're interested in and build your network holistically. As a fellow introvert, I was a commuter and didn't get involved in much besides studying and working. If I could go back, I would get involved in more.

Sally’s Answer

Hi. I faced this too. Check out campus activities and groups and choose a few (3?) to try and go 3 times to each to see if you might like it and hopefully also meet a few people you want to connect with... it's always up to you to say whether it's a good fit for you and your interests now... I hope you give a few things a try and find some good surprises :-)

Ryan’s Answer

I would recommend finding a group for an activity or interest that you have. Every University has multiple student groups and from personal experience meeting new people when you already share some commonality is much easier.

Kopavi’s Answer

Sometimes the best thing to do is take your fears head on. Joining a speech class or theater class can force you out of your comfort zone. They will teach you techniques that will allow you to be more confident. I had a tendency to be shy but after taking speech it helped me a lot and helped me overcome my fears. You can also join a club of people that have similar interests! I now have lots of confidence and am extroverted!

Kopavi recommends the following next steps:

Take a speech or theater class!
Join a club

Jennifer’s Answer

I told myself that I would not visit home until Thanksgiving. It gave me time to adjust, make friends, and not miss out on college events.
