Hello Lucia,

Good studying habits are definitely keys to success.  Remember everyone retains information differently so finding the best way for you is very important.  First start studying from the beginning and don't wait until the last minute to prepare.  If you start studying the information right away you will find that after about the third time you go over it you will have locked it in your memory.  Break it up in chapters or sections so you don't over load your mind with information.  Also try reading the information that you need to retain out load versus to yourself.  Another technique is to create practice tests on paper and answer the questions as if it was a real test.   This will also help you retain the necessary information.  And last but not least try having a friend or family member test you on the material.  I hope this helps.

Avery’s Answer

Hello! I find the best way to study is to make a checklist of materials you need to go through. For example,
1. Read the chapters covered (or read highlights/ a summary of the readings)
2. Go through teacher lecture materials and personal notes
3. Read through homework materials
4. Go through lecture materials again
5. Practice homework problems from scratch
6. Go over any final summary information you feel is necessary.

By having a checklist of steps, you help yourself really set the information to memory. Repetition is key for memorization and understanding. While going through readings and lectures is the most time-consuming part of studying, the most important thing to understand is the application of the knowledge itself (homework problems, example problems, practice tests, etc). It's important to note that these steps do not have to be completed in one day or one sitting. Once you have your checklist, you can decide when is the best time to focus on each step based on your schedule and the time you have before the exam/quiz.

Reena’s Answer

Hi! I think everyone is different so take all the advice you get and combine it in a way that works for you. What worked for me was re-watching lectures if your school and classes have that option, and taking notes while I watched. This way, I can pause the lecture, making sure to star or emphasize anything the professor repeated or specified was important. I try to do this ahead of time, I then take those notes a couple of days later and condense them down to the key points that I can look over before the exam, this way I see the material a few times and I am manipulating the content so that i am actively learning each time I see the material.
