William’s Answer

Congratulations on your foresight in preparing early! Develop good study habits. Make your teachers aware of your goal to attend medical school. Take classes that will help prepare you for your pre-med science requirements: calculus, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry and English composition.

William recommends the following next steps:

Contact local physicians and shadow them to see what the day-to-day life is like for different specialties.
If possible, do volunteer work in a medical environment: hospitals often have summer internships for high school students. Contact local hospitals and apply to serve as a volunteer.

Estelle’s Answer

Take math and science classes, and make great grades. Work hard on the SAT or ACT entrance exam. Getting into medical school is about dedication and effort. If you can do well in college, you will be really well prepared for medical school. In the US, to apply to medical school, you need a bachelor's degree. Any 4-year university should suffice.

Pick a college that suits your personality and a major that interests you. You will need to get good grades in college in order to apply for medical school. At the medical school I attended, the average GPA is reported to be 3.85, so even one or two B's can hurt your chances of acceptance.
