Hi Jade,
I admire your determination to save animals’ lives!
Most employers would prefer a zookeeper with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Environmental Resources, Wildlife Management or similar. If you want to get your foot in the door before going to college, enroll in a beginner training on animal care/wildlife rehabilitation (there are some courses online, too) and start looking for part-time and volunteer jobs (keeper’s aid or helper) in a Zoo or animal shelters. You can also join a wildlife rescue group.
Technically, in the State of Texas, you can start working at the age of 14, but there will be some limitations to what hours and occupations you can work. For example, you may not work during school hours, and no more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week when school is not in session, and no more than 3 hours in a day or 18 hours in a week when school is in session. Some limitations on work hours/occupations will apply until you turn 18 when you can work full-time. But before you reach that age, you can still develop professional skills in wildlife care through volunteering, internship, and part-time projects. Good luck!
