I am not sure if you are in high school or college, so I will answer for both. If you are in HS, I'd suggest talking with your art teacher. Perhaps there is an opportunity to design something within your high school - a new logo for a department, for example. Maybe one of your teachers is involved with a human services organization that could use some help.
If you are in college, I'd suggest talking with your art faculty and visiting the career center. What alumni are working in the area in your field of interest? The Career Center can help you make your resume as dynamic as possible before you apply. Also show it to your GD faculty to be sure that it is a good sample of your work.
Good luck!

Hi there,
every design profession typically has a parent organization that helps organize events, promote the profession, and offer educational opportunities. AIGA may be a good resource. There may be a local chapter in your city that you could contact to ask more specific questions on internships., or reach local mentors.
Providing an internship to a Graphic Design student/ High school student depends on the firm, and if they think they can provide a learning opportunity for you based on your level of experience, education and interest. I have often seen students in Architecture and Landscape request a tour of a firm, or what's known as an 'informational visit or interview' . This may allow you to learn more about the firms that you admire, and have a conversation with the firm about potential internship opportunities.
Research on firms in your area. An email to them expressing your interest and requesting a tour/ informational visit/ informational interview may be a good start.
good luck!
