In High School, I am curious about what Science Subjects you have taken and if you are in any Science Honor Classes or Advanced Placement Classes for Biology and Chemistry? You nay want to consider taking Psyscicology. Does your high school offer any special science courses like Environmental Science? If not, you can always look into taking weekend classes that some colleges offer to high school students or enroll in a science based summer camp instruction. Also, look into college requirements concerning mathematics. Also, are you involved in any extra curricular clubs offered by your high school connected to Science and Marine Biology. If not, start a club and/or see if you are able to attend or observe any local events.

Look into what science classes your school offers - biology, chemistry, and physics are all important in marine biology. Electives such as marine biology, animal science, environmental science, and oceanography will also help for college. Mathematics will also be important, so don't just focus on science. If you want to work with programs like Project Aware, you will talking to a lot of people! Courses in writing and public speaking will also help prepare you for any career. If your school has a SCUBA club or community service club that does beach clean-ups, these will get you involved in the community. In the Santa Cruz area, there are many small organizations that run based on volunteers! Joining these organizations will help prepare you for a career in marine sciences and allow you to network with people already in the field. Save our Seas (SOS) holds clean-ups every year, UCSC and CSUMB also hold events throughout the year that are open to public. The Seymour Center and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are also always looking for volunteers and provide great experience and educational opportunities for their volunteers as well!
