How do you use your skills you got in college in your current career?
I'm currently enrolled in Job Corps, training to be a Medical Administrative Assistant and I want to know some skills I would need to have in order to be a great MAA.

Hi Edalene! MAA is such a great career. Having previously worked as a career councillor, where I actually helped MAA graduates find jobs in their chosen field, I think there are some basics that will help you master the role:
- Timeliness: It's a basic thing but yet so many people can cost themselves a job by being consistently late or not completing projects on time. Learn to manage your time wisely. Get to work early (example if you are starting at 8:30am, get there at 8:15am)
- Listen and clarify: Especially when you are starting out, make sure you listen carefully to your trainer. They have done the job and usually know best. If you aren't sure of your instructions, then aska . question! Most people prefer to answer questions than to fix someones work.
- Kindness: This is probably the most important trait for someone in your field. You will often deal with sick patients or worried parents. As often the face of the medical office or even the hositpal, it is your job to make them feel welcome and reassured through a troubling time. Make sure to overly welcome to everyone at all times. Having a positive attitude will only help you in your career. Plus in life, its always better to be nice than mean :)
